I was at Starbuck's in the Barnes and Noble book store located in the mall (building inception). I decided to look for my next cogent/fallacious story in the Deseret News. I wanted to get knee deep in the paper to find a story that normally would not be seen. But who am I kidding, I found a great story on the front page.
Ronnie Lee Garner was executed by firing squad in 2010. though death by firing squad was outlawed in 2004. those who were on death row already had the option on how they wanted to die. Ronnie picked firing squad.
The article interviews Lt. Jeff Meyers; he took them to the chair that Ronnie was shot in. Four bullet holes aimed straight for his heart. the fifth one was a blank. I always thought it was the other way around. that it was four blanks and one actual bullet. in the interview Meyers says that the death by firing squad could come back and that it seem to be a more humane way to execute. Why? Meyers says its fast and you don't have to wonder if the inmate is done yet. Aside from using lethal injection or the chair.
It was talked about that Utah should do away with the death penalty altogether. this would save money on appeals and other costs. They did not mention the cost of the free dental, healthcare, food, lodging.
